BERNARD MANGION mssp

Ex-Superior General, and retired MSSP missionary.

In the twilight of my life, I look back and try to look at my experiences and what they have taught me and how they have energized me.  I do not look at myself as some ideal missionary but rather as a missionary with an ideal.

They taught me that true happiness does not come from the things we have, but rather from the healthy relationships we have with God and with our fellow humans.

My consecrated life as a religious and as a priest demand of me to live a life close to God and to his people, always trying to increase in my heart a “passion for Christ and a passion for humanity”.

Being close to the people, I have found that they really evangelized me in many ways. Their faithfulness to Jesus, even in the face of hardships, loss of opportunities to advance in life and occasionally even the loss of their lives challenged my faith and my closeness to Jesus. They inspired me and urged me to review my life of faith. They taught me that true happiness does not come from the things we have, but rather from the healthy relationships we have with God and with our fellow humans.

I feel very grateful to them.
