MSSP Oratory Youths’ Bible & Beer: A Night of Reflection, Fellowship, and Hope

The eighth edition of the MSSP Oratory Youth’s Bible & Beer series unfolded as a heartfelt evening of reflection, fellowship, and inspiration. In a warm and inviting setting, attendees gathered to explore the theme of addiction—a topic often overlooked yet deeply woven into our daily lives.

With laughter and conversation echoing over shared plates of delicious food, the event was a reminder of how meaningful dialogue can unfold in the simplest of spaces. This session explored how seemingly small habits—like endless scrolling or binge-watching—can grow into struggles that shape our mental health, relationships, and sense of purpose.

Guiding these reflections were three exceptional speakers who offered unique insights into the complexities of addiction.

Dr. Gianluca Bezzina, a medical doctor specializing in addiction treatment, brought the science to life, explaining how dopamine—the brain’s “feel-good factor”—can fuel both habits and dependencies. He shed light on the difference between dependence and addiction, emphasizing the transformative power of dignity and compassion in helping people reclaim their lives.

Anthony Gatt, psychologist and Director of Caritas Malta, shared his wealth of experience in rehabilitation, outlining the importance of readiness, willingness, and the ability to change. His practical advice encouraged attendees to understand the deeper “why” behind addictive behaviors, reminding them that even small steps can lead to profound change.

Fr. Kevin Schembri, a senior lecturer and pastoral guide, wove in a spiritual dimension, offering the comforting reminder that we are unconditionally loved—even in our darkest moments. He encouraged everyone to reconnect with their deeper motivations, find balance, and trust in the healing power of faith and community.

As the evening unfolded, conversations touched on relatable challenges: from the pressures of digital distractions to the role of family dynamics in shaping habits. The speakers offered practical ideas, such as screen-free Sundays, setting boundaries for children, and leading by example in our own lives.

Above all, the night served as a powerful reminder of the resilience within each of us. Whether overcoming a setback or starting anew, every step forward counts. The importance of community and mutual support echoed throughout the room, leaving everyone inspired to keep moving toward growth and balance.

One attendee summed it up beautifully: “It was a space where honesty and hope met. I left feeling not only understood but also encouraged to face life’s struggles with strength and grace.”

As the event came to a close, gratitude filled the air—for the wisdom shared, the courage to reflect, and the gift of community. The MSSP Oratory Youth extends heartfelt thanks to all who attended and invites everyone to carry forward the spirit of the evening: one of hope, compassion, and renewal.

With each Bible & Beer session, the journey deepens, fostering meaningful connections and transformative conversations. Together, we are reminded that even in our struggles, we are never alone—and there is always a way forward.
